Our founder President Late Sri Laxami Narayan Agarwal was born in Siliguri in 1915 and passed Madhyamik from Siliguri Boys’ High School. He was involved in the development of Siliguri from boyhood and was associated with many local, cultural, Social & Educational organizations. He was elected Commissioner of Siliguri Municipality during 1970 and was one of the main founder pillars of Hindi Higher Secondary School, Siliguri, Siliguri Gousala, Satyanarayan Thankurbari and Hardware Merchants’ Association. He was mainly known as Maina Babu and was loved by all communities. He was also associated with Banwasi Kalyan Ashram and Uttar Banga Sewa Bharati. Although he was no more a member of HMA in 1988 he very kindly accepted an invitation of then Hony. Gen. Secretary Sri R. K Gupta and graced the Annual General Meeting on 19.03.1988 and promised to shower his blessings in future also. But alas! Cruel hands of death snatched him away from us for ever on 16.01.1989. We, at HMA salute him, remember him, and pay our respectful homage to Late “Maina Babu”.
